O, dear LoCo music lovers! Please pardon our tardiness. We hope these fresh new 50-word reviews of Longmont music will earn your forgiveness.
With this installment, we introduce you to five releases from three Longmont artists. Why are we including three releases from a single artist? Well, they were all released at the same time and, in a way, strike us as a trilogy, so we're treating these three EPs as one release.
Once again, we hold our genre labels very loosely because they'll never capture the true complexity and beauty of music.
Neon Nights by Angelwreck
Artist: Angelwreck
Title: Neon Nights
Genre: Symphonic metal pop rock
Release Date: April 29, 2026
Highlight: "Capture This"
50-word review: Local vlogger/gamer/livestreamer AJ Sprague has transformed her dark country rock songs into dense, opulent, theatrical arrangements on this 13-track album. Songs of love, angst, and alienation are beefed up with wailing guitars, lush synths, and thundering drums to create a gothic, symphonic maelstrom that you can still sing along to.
Caveat Emptor: We don't know for a fact, but we have reasons to believe that some or all of the music on this release was created with AI. We neither condemn nor condone this; we just thought you should know.
Cagebirds Demo by Cagebirds
Artist: Cagebirds
Title: Cagebirds Demo
Genre: Lo-fi outsider indie pop
Release Date: April 17, 2026
Highlight: "She Draws Dragons"
50-word review: The 10 tracks on Russell Sample's debut plea simultaneously for connection and solitude. Their rough-hewn naïveté provides a fertile musical bed in which Sample’s simple melodies and complex lyrics grow, entwine, and grow again, leaving the listener feeling both rebuffed and embraced, invited and rejected. Repeated listens reveal inscrutable secrets.
MPC Beats, Silver One EP, and Jockabird EP by Grant Redfearn
Artist: Grant Redfearn
Title: MPC Beats, Silver One EP, Jockabird EP
Genre: Lo-fi electronic hip-hop beats
Release Date: May 11, 2026
Highlight: "On the Grind"
50-word review: Grant Redfearn released a trilogy of beat-heavy EPs on May 11th that hang together nicely. MPC Beats is the rawest of the three. Silver One is the slickest. And Jockabird is the most hip-hop. Together, they showcase a beatmaker with compositional chops and an undeniable ability to make heads nod.
Don't forget that buying music from local artists makes our Longmont music scene healthier, more resilient, and stronger. And if you want to maximize your impact, buy on Bandcamp Friday (the first Friday of the month), when all proceeds go to the artists.
Enjoy your new music, and we'll see you in the front row!
