This week in Longmont, you can celebrate Valentine's Day or Mardi Gras or both by catching live jazz, punk, funk, soul, country, and myriad flavors of rock. We'll highlight just a couple of options we think you should consider.
Don't forget: Front Row LoCo has Longmont's only events calendar dedicated to live music!
Before we get to the shows, here are three live music tips to help you be a better fan and supporter:
For ticketed shows, please buy tickets in advance, if you can. I know we're in a last-minute culture, but presales REALLY help both artists and promoters (those are the folks who make shows happen). Commit now by clicking the ticket links below.
You might notice the letters "NOTAFLOF" associated with some DIY shows. Don't be scared. It means "No One Turned Away For Lack Of Funds," and it's a way of ensuring that live music is available to everyone. If you CAN pay for these shows, please do, because you'll be helping the promoter, the artists, and your neighbors. But if you can't, know that your fellow music lovers have got your back.
Punk shows will and should include mosh pits. This time-honored tradition might look or feel dangerous to the uninitiated, but it's actually an opportunity to build community, feel the music viscerally, and blow off steam safely. It also provides valuable feedback to the performers. If you can't participate, don't want to, or just aren't into such things, but you still enjoy this music, your best bet is to post up near the back of the room.
OK! On with the shows!

For a diverse lineup and a guaranteed good time, check out the Rockin' Redlight Party at Bizarre Electronics Repair on Friday night. Five bands of varying styles for just $18! From the retro-inflected alt-rock of Nine Wide Sky to the punk pastiche of Winched! to the post-grunge of The Shvkes (pronounced "the shakes") to the fraternal pogo of Kung Fu Juice Box to the high-energy rock stew of Rat Brew, this show is bound to be a wild, inclusive party. As a bonus, the stoplight theme means you'll be issued a wristband to indicate your relationship status: red for taken, yellow for complicated, green for available. Reds can have a fun night out with their SOs. Greens can find love. And yellows can figure some stuff out -- or not! While you're buying your ticket, make sure to follow Lunar Lux Entertainment on Humanitix to stay posted on all the amazing events this powerful force for good organizes.
